Non-urgent advice: Pharmacy First Services

Pharmacy First lets you get quick, expert help for common health problems directly from your local pharmacy, without needing to see a GP first. Pharmacists can assess your symptoms, offer advice, and provide treatment where appropriate. It’s a fast, convenient way to get care, and your pharmacist will tell you if you need to see a doctor instead.

The following table shows the 7 conditions pharmacists can manage across various age ranges, which may include a prescription for antibiotics.

Impetigo 1 year and over
Infected insect bites 1 year and over
Shingles 18 years and over
Sinusitis 12 years and over
Sore throat 5 years and over
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections Women 16-64 years

You can also attend your local pharmacy without a referral, who may be able to help with some minor ailments including -

  • Colds
  • Earache 
  • Cystitis 
  • Skin rashes
  • Teething 
  • Red eye
